AfterDark Post Production is a boutique post-production house based in Cape Town, South Africa and recently opened in London as well. We provide post-production services that include both offline and online editing, colour grading, digital cinema encoding, format conversions. We work in close partnership with a variety of clients from multinational corporations, advertising agencies, film production companies, and studios to create compelling stories.

We recently moved and now share a facility with award-winning visual effects company Black Ginger.
Our Post-Production Facility comprises of Avid MC, FCP x and Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve Color Suites, Autodesk Flame Suite as well as 3D and 2D Motion Graphic Support. Our suites are also HD, 2K, and 4K ready for projects requiring extra processing capabilities such as those shot on Alexa ARRIRAW and RED Epic Dragon cameras.

Bringing out the best from your raw footage is one of the most difficult aspects of the post-production process, especially with the wide range of cameras and colour space options available today. Owner and colorist Matthys Pretorius specialize in grading with DaVinci Resolve and Baselight, and is comfortable in handling all types of work including commercials, broadcast television programmes and full-length feature films.
Whether working on long-form broadcast series where you want colour correction and seamless media management or working on commercials, promos and title sequences with sophisticated VFX, AfterDark Post provides all the tools you need. Our online department is equiped with Avid, Autodesk Smoke and Flame 2022. With a large range of plug-in options and as much storage as you might require you can efficiently post pretty much any SD, HD or 4K project while perfectly conforming from in-house offline.
AfterDark Post has six editing suites equipped with Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro for offline editing. Our team of full-time and freelance editors are experienced to handle any type of creative work, be it simple online content, corporate videos, or a demanding 4K multi-episode broadcast television series. We are dedicated and eager to collaborate with you and bring the project to fruition, all the while accommodating to your budget.
We make sure all your media (footage) is backed up safely giving you piece of mind. We can prep for your Offline Edit and prep Dailies. We also handle all your Color Management. We work with ARRI, RED, Sony, XDCAM, Blackmagic, etc.
AfterDark Post’s VFX team has workstations setup for 2D and 3D work. The area is designed to enable a collaborative workflow with our Flame Premium suites and specialises in branding, idents, promos, commercials and titles. The PC based workstations are equipped with the latest versions of the Adobe creative suite, Mocha, Nuke, Cinema 4d, Maya & Softimage. We also have remote stations for working with clients in suites and/or on location providing a total VFX experience.
One of AfterDark Post’s unique services is being able to create industry-compliant Digital Cinema Packages from original HD, 2K or 4K projects. We provide the industry’s highest quality colour-space conversion, and can supply Dolby 5.1 encoding at no additional charge. We can also do reverse-DCP conversion for projects that need editing, censorship or alternate file format outputs.

MEET THE TEAM
Salama Khan has been working in the TV industry for 18 years. Developing strategies for a number of leading production companies. She joined AfterDark Post Production in 2020 as Managing Director and Owner to run the daily operations.
In action, she started out as a PA on Gijima and World of Soccer, progressing to becoming a producing manager on Old Mutual World Of Endurance and Hip2b2 and producer of
She also worked as a Production Manager on TV magazine shows like LuvSport and Keeping It Real. Salama also handled sponsorship management deals for all shows across the board and has a wealth of knowledge in developing key sponsorships and trade exchange agreements
for existing projects and new shows in development.
Salama is also currently the Vice President of Ice Hockey and National Team Manager for the South African Woman’s Team, and Women in Sport for the South African Ice Hockey Association.
Matthys Pretorius is a Cape Town/United Kingdom-based film/video editor and colorist with over 22 years of experience in the field of post-production. He specializes in editing for television and film, colour grading and post-production supervision. He has deep knowledge in the field of 4K post-production and is an expert in this field.
Over the years, he has worked as a freelance editor for various production companies and studios around the world, including Homebrew Films, Octagon CSI, Clockwork Zoo, Warner Brothers, Universal Pictures. Tristar Pictures, Think Big Productions, Gateway films, Waterfront Studios, Condor, Black Ginger, BBC, talkbackTHAMES, ClearCut Pictures, OmniSport and many more.
Matthys is currently working in London as a post supervisor, freelance editor and colourist on various productions.
No stranger to the pressures of the industry, Matthys has worked with some of the top editors in the world including work alongside Hervé Schneid, Oscar winning editor for Amelie, and on feature films such as District 9 (nominated for 4 Oscars), The Sinking of Laconia, 10000BC, and many more.
