AfterDark Post Production is a specialized post-production studio located in Cape Town, South Africa, with an additional branch opening in London in 2021. Our services encompass a wide range, including offline and online editing, color grading, digital cinema encoding, and format conversions. We collaborate closely with a diverse range of clients, such as multinational corporations, advertising agencies, film production companies, and studios, to craft engaging narratives.
Whether it's corporate or promotional videos, commercials, documentaries, music, or feature films, we offer our expertise, impartiality, and extensive experience to every project. From initial concepts and production to post-production, we possess a thorough understanding of effectively conveying your message to your target audience.
We recently relocated to the Old Castle Brewery, Cape Town.
Our state-of-the-art Post-Production Facility is equipped with Avid MC, FCP x, and Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve Color Suites, Autodesk Flame Suite, as well as 3D and 2D Motion Graphic Support. Our suites are HD, 2K, and 4K capable, catering to projects that demand additional processing power, such as those shot on Alexa ARRIRAW and RED Epic Dragon cameras.
Our friendly team consists of versatile professionals, each an expert in Producing, Offline Cutting, Digital Intermediate Colour Grading, Online/Special FX, Compositing, Digital Cleanups, 2D Motion Graphics & 3D Animation. This means we are efficient, dependable, and always seeking inventive ways to optimize the impact of your project, delivering punctually and within budget.
SERVICES
Bringing out the best from your raw footage is one of the most difficult aspects of the post-production process, especially with the wide range of cameras and colour space options available today. Owner and colorist Matthys Pretorius specialize in grading with DaVinci Resolve and Baselight, and is comfortable in handling all types of work including commercials, broadcast television programmes and full-length feature films.
Whether working on long-form broadcast series where you want colour correction and seamless media management or working on commercials, promos and title sequences with sophisticated VFX, AfterDark Post provides all the tools you need. Our online department is equiped with Avid, Autodesk Smoke and Flame 2022. With a large range of plug-in options and as much storage as you might require you can efficiently post pretty much any SD, HD or 4K project while perfectly conforming from in-house offline.
AfterDark Post has six editing suites equipped with Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro for offline editing. Our team of full-time and freelance editors are experienced to handle any type of creative work, be it simple online content, corporate videos, or a demanding 4K multi-episode broadcast television series. We are dedicated and eager to collaborate with you and bring the project to fruition, all the while accommodating to your budget.
We make sure all your media (footage) is backed up safely giving you piece of mind. We can prep for your Offline Edit and prep Dailies. We also handle all your Color Management. We work with ARRI, RED, Sony, XDCAM, Blackmagic, etc.
AfterDark Post’s VFX team has workstations setup for 2D and 3D work. The area is designed to enable a collaborative workflow with our Flame Premium suites and specialises in branding, idents, promos, commercials and titles. The PC based workstations are equipped with the latest versions of the Adobe creative suite, Mocha, Nuke, Cinema 4d, Maya & Softimage. We also have remote stations for working with clients in suites and/or on location providing a total VFX experience.
One of AfterDark Post’s unique services is being able to create industry-compliant Digital Cinema Packages from original HD, 2K or 4K projects. We provide the industry’s highest quality colour-space conversion, and can supply Dolby 5.1 encoding at no additional charge. We can also do reverse-DCP conversion for projects that need editing, censorship or alternate file format outputs.
Established in January 2013, Origin Audio is a focused, creative company with a passion for sound and creating exceptional projects that work. We pride ourselves on attention to detail and make sure that every aspect of your project from finding that one specific sound to the final mix will receive equal and thorough attention. No matter how big or small the project, we strive on going the extra mile to give you that unexpected something that makes your soundtrack perfect.
We edit as you shoot so you know exactly what has been shot. We provide supervision and advice to make sure you get what you need for your final product.

Matthys Pretorius
Founder
Matthys Pretorius is the Founder of AfterDark Post Production — a boutique finishing house built on global studio standards and creative precision.
With over 25 years in film and television, Matthys combines executive-level oversight with hands-on expertise in editing, color grading, and final delivery. As former Senior Post Production Executive for Unscripted Africa at Amazon MGM Studios, he led Prime Video productions across the UK and Africa, aligning local workflows with complex international streaming requirements.
Most recently, Matthys handled the full finishing, color grading, and all final deliverables on the animated feature David, which has performed strongly at the box office — a project that demanded precise animation pipeline management and seamless mastering for distribution.
He also graded the hybrid documentary Against All Odds for Bloomberg, a production combining live-action footage with approximately 90% AI-generated visuals, requiring careful tonal integration between practical photography and generative imagery. In addition, he oversaw post and color on the feature film The Caged.
Calm under pressure and meticulous in execution, Matthys brings clarity, control, and cinematic polish to every project at AfterDark.
Irfaan Fredericks
Director
Irfaan Fredericks is a film and television producer with over two decades of experience working across African and international markets. He is known for building strong production frameworks and delivering premium scripted content that meets global standards while remaining regionally authentic.
From 2014 to 2021, Irfaan co-owned and managed Kalahari Film & Media, helping grow the company into a leading production house producing both studio-backed and independent films with international talent. He later founded Wallflower Productions, focused on developing original African stories for global audiences — a move that led to his appointment at Amazon Studios.
At Amazon Studios, he oversaw scripted production across the Middle East and Africa, aligning internal departments and integrating post-production into the production process from inception. This approach strengthened delivery pipelines and elevated regional production standards.
Today, Irfaan operates as an independent producer, connecting studios with streamlined production solutions across Africa, the Middle East, India, and the United Kingdom.
Salama Khan
Director
Salama Khan has been working in the TV industry for 18 years. Developing strategies for a number of leading production companies. She joined AfterDark Post Production in 2020 as Managing Director and Owner to run the daily operations.
In action, she started out as a PA on Gijima and World of Soccer, progressing to becoming a producing manager on Old Mutual World Of Endurance and Hip2b2 and producer of
Destination SA.
She also worked as a Production Manager on TV magazine shows like LuvSport and Keeping It Real. Salama also handled sponsorship management deals for all shows across the board and has a wealth of knowledge in developing key sponsorships and trade exchange agreements
for existing projects and new shows in development.
Salama is also currently the Vice President of Ice Hockey and National Team Manager for the South African Woman’s Team, and Women in Sport for the South African Ice Hockey Association.
